The EWSETA Skills Hub
The Skills Hub is an experiential learning programme, both exciting and relevant to participants from the academic and technical backgrounds, who are starting off in their career.
This session aims to increasing the employability of young professionals in the water sector through a practically oriented experiential learning programme. The idea is to address some of the most urgent difficulties faced by young people entering the sector and create an employment value chain – what jobs are out there, how to get the job and how to excel in the job.
This workshop will equip the attendees with some basic skills and concepts to help you work towards excelling in your early careers.
The objective of this session is to introduce entrepreneurship as a concept and option to take further innovations in the water and natural resource management fields.
“Stop Talking and Start Doing” is an apt descriptor for the Imvelisi Enviropreneurship session. This session will engage young researchers, students and professionals in a discourse and application of key entrepreneurship concepts to transform the philosophies of research into impactful and innovative solutions for our continent.
Join us for a session where we share our ideas about different aspects of green entrepreneurship and then move to a really practical “doing session” where we canvas different ideas into business concepts.
Please see detailed programme below for full details.
African Sessions – The Post-2015 Agenda
This session aims to familiarise you with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assist you in gaining insight into the associated research plans, funding mechanisms, and active youth organisations in this space.
Specifically, the session will introduce the SDGs to increase awareness of the greater global context in which water professionals operate in, and kick start a discussion around the available youth networks in the sector and how they currently link to the post-2015 agenda, as well as how each network could/should contribute to this vision.
It is hoped that this will increase YWP participation in the realisation of the SDGs and in so doing assist you in taking up a leading role in shaping the future of the African continent.
Research Stream Sessions
The conference sessions are broadly defined into the following categories, based on the topics of research to be presented. The spirit of this event, however, is to include all young people who are passionate about the water sector.
The conference will feature a strong technical programme, with sessions tailored to present knowledge gained from working in the water sector, and workshops to develop skills further:
Summary of the various parallel activities to take place at the Conference
This will include invited plenary and keynote presentations from notable individual s in the water sector, oral presentations of submitted papers on case studies and research, and research posters sessions
*EWSETA Learning Hub*
This will include YWPs working in technical occupations (e.g. process controllers and operators and laboratory technicians). These sessions will create space for these individuals to meet each other and interact with other YWPs from other sectors, as well as highlighting opportunities for career and capacity development.
This interactive exhibition will be a space for organisations to showcase their work, innovative technologies and solutions and meet and network with the young professionals at the event.
Keeping with the youthful vigour of YWP we will, of course, have a variety of fun social functions, featuring networking events, a gala dinner and an awards lunch.
RECRUITMENT AND EXHIBITION
The conference will include an interactive exhibition hall to highlight new technologies, innovative concepts, and soft skills tools that all YWPs can use. This also brings YWPs in contact with potential employer organisations. Organisations in the ‘water field’ are invited to participate in the exhibition as a product / service exhibiter and to meet the talented young professionals at the conference. Interested organisations are requested to contact the Secretariat for further information.
